The anatomy of an affiliate marketing sale

The anatomy of a sale has not changed over the hundreds of years that we as humans have been selling to one another. First there is the offer, and then there is the counter offer, the exchange of money and the delivery of the product or service, affectionately known as “the close.”

If only it was that simple, right? The problem is that normally a person will never take the first offer and as such most sales people give up and don’t know the anatomy of a sale. When each step in the sales process is handled correctly, the close is the natural conclusion to a successfully followed sales process. If research tells us anything it is that: “You Can Not Take “NO” For an Answer!”

In the anatomy of a sale, most internet marketers or sales people have the following disposition;

* 48% of them will quit after the 1st contact where the buyer says NO.

* 73% will quit after the 2nd contact.

* 85% will quit after the 3rd contact.

* 90% will quit after the 4th contact.

Because of these startling numbers is it no wonder why over 80% of the sales will go to only 10% of the marketers who refuse to take No for an answer. Now obviously in today’s internet marketing world it would be impossible for you to maintain contact with so many people over such a long period of time. That is the reason that we discussed the power of auto responders in our prior newsletter. The auto responder will handle this process for you almost guaranteeing that you will have a sale in the future.

So when you are setting up your email campaign, you want to automatically plan to send out no less than 3 emails where you do nothing but provide the reader with good, valuable, and viable information. By looking at the chart above, you will note that you have already bypassed over 85% of your competition. If you remember correctly we made a recommendation that you do not make a product recommendation except for every 3 to 6 months, now you know why; it puts you ahead of the power curve.

Remember ultimately that your objective is to get people to click through your affiliate link to get them to buy a product or service. How you go about doing that is totally up to you. I would recommend that you do some further research into the art of the sale and how to do the soft sell. The most powerful tool in your tool box is the auto responder. Make sure that you use it.

An interesting corollary statistic that coincides with the above chart is that:

* Only 2% to 3% of the people will buy at the first to second sales contact.

* Only 3% to 5% of the people will buy at the third to fourth sales contact.

* Only 6% to 8% of the people will buy at the fifth to sixth sales contact.

* Only 8% to 10% of the people will buy at the seventh sales contact.

* Over 80% of the people buy when at or over the 8th sales contact.

So again, maintaining a good relationship with your readers is critical. Also critical is that when you do make a product offer you should plan on making that offer no less that eight times. How you do that is totally up to you. I would recommend that you push the soft sale with your post script for the first four to six contacts. Then really make an offer/product recommendation for the seventh, eighth, and ninth contacts and then a final email for that particular campaign thanking all recipient’s that decided to buy with some testimonials thrown into the mix on how much success they are having and a sorry you missed the opportunity to those that decided not to buy. That way the next time you make a product offer those that waited the last time might be more prone to act the second time around.

To your success in all you do

PS. Go online and research some of those mini-sites that we talked about that are referred to as “long sales copy” so that you can get some ideas about the proper flow of a sales offer and get some ideas you can implement into your sales process.

A Beginner’s Guide To Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate Marketing is blowing up in popularity as the hot new way to make money on the internet. It’s becoming so popular due to the fact that it lets people earn extra money on the side if they so choose to, and it even enables some people to make a full time living online if they learn the process well enough. And despite what you may have heard, it can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be! Let me introduce you into the world of affiliate marketing and show you that it can be simple and maybe even a bit fun if
you’re into that sort of computer nerdy type thing.

The term of affiliate marketing is so surprisingly simple even though it may seem a little complicated at first. In layman’s terms all it means is that you are selling a company’s products, and in exchange for your salesmanship, they are going to give you a nice little compensation. Not the big, bad monster we though it was just ten seconds ago, right?

The natural progression of things usually leads to people asking how they’re supposed to sell this stuff. Well hold your horses Tonto, let’s bring up an even better question first; what is it that you want to sell? Even better, how do we know what companies want us to sell their stuff? This is what really trips people out, most every company online has an affiliate program that people can openly join. Amazon? Yep. Ebay? Check. Moe’s Texas Style 100% Authentic Cowboy Boots? Definitely. Let’s give it a whirl. Go check out your favorite online retailer and search their website for a link for affiliates. Once you find the page, you should read through their terms and make sure you find out what kind of commission they offer on products that you would want to promote. Some websites offer great commission percentages, and others don’t, so do your research!

Now that we’ve got our product of choice selected, let’s move on! This is the best part, we now have to get inside people’s heads on why they should really buy this product. What’s going to happen now is we need to write an article that gets people emotionally involved with your product. The better your writing skills are, the bigger your income with this project will be. At this point, head on over to Yahoo or Google and do a search for article directories, and then proceed to submit your article to these websites who publish it for tons of people to see. If you feel extra ambitious, submit to a bunch, increasing your chances of making money. Seriously, the more you submit to the better! You should notice a section of each submission form called the resource box. This is where you want to put your affiliate link for the product so they know how to get to it and you still get credit for the sale.

Was this so terrible? Not even close! What you have completed is referred to as article marketing, good job! This is a proven method of making some cash without a huge time investment, and once a person gets it nailed down can have awesome results. Its my hope that this helps a few people get into affiliate marketing.

Conversion In Affiliate Marketing

In previous articles (The Top 4 Rules In Affiliate Marketing and The Next Big Rule In Affiliate Marketing), we talked about five principles which when mastered would leap-frog one into the league of online super affiliates. This article looks to wrap up the first segment of affiliate tips but introducing the penultimate tenet of the 7 main principles of affiliate marketing.

As a top-end affiliate, one must focus on conversion at all times and situations. Conversion can specifically be viewed as a percentage; ie how many sales out of a 100 clicks to a product. For eg, if 10 and 200 subscribers purchase out of 500 receipts of a sales-letter the conversion rates are 2% and 40% respectively. A myriad of factors affect conversion and the only way to improve this statistic is to test, monitor and track traffic.

One should test out different strategies and at the same time execute tests on factors such as the following:

– Use graphics instead of only text on opt-in pages

– Would big headlines or smaller sub-headlines work better?

– Long or short opt-in pages?

– How to offer/send subscribers to different affiliate links and even owned products
On follow-up emails one can consider varying:

– Subject titles to hone in on receive and read rates

– One time and limited offers

– Bonuses wherever possible

– How and offer is presented be it in writing style, language or tone. One can also vary the auxiliary content associated with such offers. These could include money-back guarantees, refunds, more bonuses if conditions are met etc.

– Re-directing subscribers to affiliate links, video and audio material, content portal websites, blogs and other products

The above only comprises a short listing of the commonest elements good affiliates employ to evaluate performance. This is by no means exhaustive and preference varies from individual to individual. The key to success is hard work in figuring what tweaks one would need to have to ensure maximum conversion.
